CK oxidation catalyst features
Topsoe's CK-series of oxidation catalysts lower the required oxidation temperature of VOCs to 200-400°C. Compared to thermal oxidation, this provides very cost efficient, safe and environment friendly operations:
- high energy efficiency at very low fuel consumption, also with low concentrations of VOC
- carbon footprint is minimised
- less expensive steel can be used as construction material
- negligible release of secondary pollutants such as nitrogen oxides (NOx) and carbon monoxide (CO)
The CK catalysts are based on proprietary formulations with base-metal oxides or precious metals as active components and they are available as pellets, rings and monoliths to fit reactors of any design. The catalysts feature:
- applicability in a versatile type of industries
- high temperature stability
- ability to handle halogenated and sulphurous compounds
- excellent resistance towards poisoning
Industrial experience comprises:
- gas flow rates from 100 Nm3/h to more than 100,000 Nm3/h
- inlet temperatures from 250°C to 600°C
- VOC concentrations from 100 mg/Nm3 to more than 3 vol.%
- pressures up 20 bar g
Combining process data with industrial experience
Topsoe combines process data for catalytic oxidation of individual VOCs across various catalysts with extensive industrial experience. This creates the ideal platform for finding the best catalytic solution based on information such as exhaust air flow, temperature, content of pollutants, energy costs etc.
Catalytic oxidation in the market
Over the past 30 years Topsoe has supplied more than 600 catalytic oxidation units to a broad variety of industries worldwide. This has in conjunction with intensive R&D programmes provided Topsoe with a safe and superior design basis for customised catalytic solutions.
As energy prices are increasing, more and more environmental agencies around the world are focusing on a more economical way of VOC abatement, and catalytic oxidation is the most efficient and economical solution.
Catalytic oxidation has a short ROI due to very low running cost based on the low running temperature when comparing to other techniques. If enough VOC is present the process is regenerative and autothermal, meaning the process runs without adding additional heating.
Topsøe works with OEMs for turnkey installations worldwide. We provide basic engineering and catalyst in multiple forms in order to meet any flue gas composition.
