The methanol-to-hydrogen technology
Topsoe has developed a technology for the production of small quantities of hydrogen based on decomposition of methanol. The process is highly competitive in regard to investment and operating costs. The feedstock is easily transported and stored at any location.
Methanol-to-hydrogen benefits
The process is based on the use of a highly active catalyst combining activity for methanol decomposition with activity for shift conversion of CO at low temperature, and on an advanced design of the reactor and heat exchange systems.
The unit has a fast and simple start-up procedure, allowing for shut-downs overnight. Start-up from stand-by to full capacity takes 5-10 minutes.
The use of a heat transfer medium in the process system offers a possibility of fully automising the plants.
Topsoe offers standard package units for 300 and 600 Nm3/h hydrogen (270 and 540 MSCFD).
Focal points
The plants are delivered as pre-erected and pre-tested modules.
