Topsoe's insight into catalyst nano structures has led to the development of high-activity catalysts, which in combination with a fundamental understanding of the kinetics of ULSD enable us to provide our clients with low capital expenditure and operational expenditure in the design of new and revamping of existing ULSD hydrotreaters.

Topsoe's diesel hydrodesulphurisation technology and catalysts may be used for all types of SR and cracked diesel feed and include:

Compliance with international standards

Production of diesel with less than 10 wt ppm sulphur from straight-run and cracked feedstock.

ULSD production combined with deep dearomatisation
Topsoe's dearomatisation licensed technology and catalyst (HDA) is especially suited for the treatment of heavy feedstocks and for large cetane lift. It is a two-step process with a first stage for sulphur and nitrogen removal followed by a second HDA stage to remove aromatics and reduce polyaromatics.

ULSD production combined with colour removal
Topsoe offers a range of catalysts for colour removal in ULSD. The polyshift licensed technology improves the colour to meet the most stringent specifications.

ULSD production at substantially reduced hydrogen consumption

Topsoe's reverse polyshift licensed technology and catalyst can be utilised to produce ultra-low sulphur diesel (less than 10 wppm sulphur) while substantially reducing the hydogen consumption associated with aromatics saturation. A unique, proprietary process flow scheme is used to shift aromatics saturation as a consequence of thermodynamic equilibrium limitations, resulting in 10 to 20% lower average hydrogen consumption and 20 to 40% lower peak hydrogen consumption in many applications. A simple revamp of an existing unit can achieve substantial capacity expansion without the requirement for additional hydrogen or hydrogen compression facilities.

 

Topsoe's BRIM™ catalysts

For the production of ULSD, Topsoe offers several BRIM™ catalysts. Topsoe's BRIM™ catalysts are based on a proprietary production technology and have both high stability and a high activity for removal of the sterically hindered sulphur compounds. BRIM™ catalysts have demonstrated improved performance and cycle length in numerous hydrotreaters, and tested by many refiners to be superior products.
