Caesium promoted catalyst features
Incorporating caesium as an additional catalyst promoter activates the catalyst at a much lower temperature than non-caesium catalysts.
Topsoe's caesium promoted catalysts provide
- exceptionally high activity due to Topsoe's unique production techniques
- low ignition temperature of 320-330°C (610-625°F) offering the possibility for faster and smoother start-ups
VK59
VK59 is a caesium-promoted catalyst optimised for medium to high strength SO2 gasses with continuous operation down to 370°C/700°F. VK59 is produced in the well-known 12 mm Daisy shape.
Topsoe's VK59 catalyst is in operation in approximately 130 sulphuric acid plants.
VK 59 benefits
The VK59 catalyst offers a number of benefits
- accomodates strong SO2 feed gasses
- greatly improved operating flexibility for rapidly changing feed gas composition
- low ignition temperature for faster and cleaner start-ups
- significantly extended idle time for auto-thermal restarts
- improved overall conversion in single-absorption plants
VK69
VK69 is designed specifically for the final pass(es) of double absorption plants, and the unique VK69 formulation offers unmatched high activity throughout the entire operating temperature range.
VK69 is manufactured in a unique 9 mm Daisy-shape. The high surface area contributes to the high activity in this gas environment and the high void-fraction ensures a low pressure drop and good dust tolerance.
Topsoe's VK69 catalyst has been installed in approximately 100 sulphuric acid plants world wide.
VK69 benefits
The VK69 offers a number of benefits
- 50% reduction in SO2 emission from existing double-absorption plants
- possibility for significantly increased production without increasing SO2 emissions
- less than 50 ppm of SO2 emissions achievable from both new or revamped plants
- low ignition temperature for faster and smoother start-ups
- long lifetime and low screening losses
